Bellano and Oro

From Tirano we caught an Italian train back to Lake Como, stopping at the Bellano Station. We then walked up to the hamlet of Oro. Oro is a small hamlet of Bellano. The name comes perhaps from the terracies (in dialect “ör”=edges) on which it stays between Bellano and Dervio. Oro is on the path “Il Sentiero del Viandante”.

We stayed at La casa delle rondini (The swallow’s house Bed and Breakfast).

That afternoon we toured Bellano, hiking down the path to the road. One sight no visitor to Bellano should miss is the Gorge ‘Orrido’ and the wood carving in the chapel.

Our hostess and owner of B&B, Costanza Panella and her husband, treated us to a special dinner overlooking the lake. The menu included freshly caught lake trout a local specialty, salad and a delicious tomato pasta, along with a bottle of their own wine. If you look closely you can see the lights back at Menaggio across the lake.
